Cant The visible vertical height of a piece of log siding.
Cantilever A beam, floor, slab or truss which extends beyond its last point of support.
Casement Window A window that pivots on an axis at or near a vertical edge of the sash.  “Cranks open” to the left or right.
Casing The wood finish pieces surrounding the frame of a window or door.
Cathedral ceiling An interior ceiling that typically follows the outside roof pitch.
Caulk A low range sealant used to close joints between logs or cracks to keep air and water out.
Chamfer An angle cut at the end of the logs or other materials.
Chord Top and bottom member of a truss.
Circle Top A window in the shape of a half circle.
Cladding Aluminum or vinyl exterior material of a window.
Closed Gable Porch A porch with a gable wall at the front of the porch usually covered with log siding.
Collar Tie A log member used in a rafter to rafter connection to help keep the rafters from spreading.
Column Base Hardware used to protect a wood column from ground contact moisture and in some cases to help prevent uplift.
Column Cap Hardware attached to the top of a support column to secure a beam and prevent delamination.
Commitment Letter A letter from the bank stating the loan has been approved.
Confirmation of Delivery Letters Letters and waiver forms used to confirm the details of a delivery including times, payment amounts and directions to the jobsite.
Confirmed Delivery The agreed upon delivery date
Connecting Door The fire door between the house and garage.
Continuous Ridge Vent A screened, water-shielded ventilation system that runs continuously along the ridge of a roof.
Contractor A person or organization that undertakes the legal obligation to do the construction work.
Conventional Stairs A flight of stairs conventional 2x or hardwood material.
Cord of Wood A unit of wood 48” high, 48” wide, 96” long
Crawlspace A shallow open area between the floor of a building and the ground, normally enclosed by the foundation wall.
